As many saw on my Facebook page and wall yesterday, I have now added a new bike to my running lifestyle! It's been a long time in coming but it is indeed here and ready for me. The decision was between a Giant Escape 2 , which I could have purchased over in Portland for $450, or a Trex 7.2 FX from my local bike shop. After a 5K run to my local shop, the best one in Vancouver, I decided on the Trex. It is a sweet bike and the savings I received on it made it the price less than the Giant. I do admit I loved the Giant Iguana I rode for a year and a half.
But, it was a steel framed bike with some issues and also twenty years old! So, it eventually broke, the cranks being a mess and worn out. As I didn't have the funds for a new bike then, off it went for parts. I've had the bug for a new one since and finally, after selling some things and saving a bit, I was able to go get the Trex 7.2 yesterday.
What a step up BIG TIME from the old Iguana! And the parts are better than the current Giant I was considering in Portland. This and the local shop which is family owned....that was enough to make my mind up. I rode it home after my 5K run. :-)
Now I have a new ride that will take me out and about a lot more. There are a few things I need to add to it as some of my old accessories do not fit the model I now own. I'll be off to the bike shoppe soon to do that with the money I saved on the original price as the bike shop gave me a better deal than I expected. I'm now a two sport athlete and hope to compete in a duathlon sometime either over the summer or next autumn . It's primary use will be for transportation but I do want to give the duathlon a shot someday. All in all, a very happy runner/rider now with this addition!
